Bombers score pair of runner-up finishes on hardwood

The L.V. Rogers Bombers continue to improve on the Kootenay High School Girls Basketball season.

The Bombers scored a couple of second-place finishes during tournaments in Creston, and last weekend, in Castlegar.

The Bombers, missing a couple of key players, lost 59-39 to Kootenay River of Creston in the final of the Stanley Humphries Girls Basketball Tournament Saturday in the Sunflower City.

The win avenged an earlier defeated suffered by Kootenay River at the hands of the Bombers.

Kootenay River scored the first eight points of the game, and never looked back against LVR.

Chloe Davidson and Liberty Palmer each scored four and nine points respectively in the first quarter as Kootenay River opened a 19-12 lead at the break.

Palmer finished the game 21 points while Gia Davidson scored eight points and Dawn Cooke, seven, to lead the Bombers.

LVR turned the tables on Kootenay River in the final game of the round robin Friday.

The Bombers held leads of 10-5 and 24-13 at halftime to secure a 64-38 victory over Kootenay River.

The point total advanced LVR into the final.

Atlyn Proctor and Hannah McClure each had 14 points to pace the Bombers.

Davidson and Liza Korinth each added six points.

At the Kootenay River Senior Girls Tournament, host Kootenay River defeated the Bombers 51-32 to clinch the tournament.

Piper Maillet scored eight points to lead the Bombers offence.

LVR defeated Stanley Humphries of Castlegar and Golden Eagles 47-29 in other round robin games.

Players of the Game at Kootenay River included Gia Davidson, Hannah McClure and Liza Korinth.

Monday in Trail, LVR dropped a 43-32 decision to host J. Lloyd Crowe Hawks in West Kootenay High School Girls Basketball action.

McClure, with seven points, Proctor, with six, and Kelsey Palazzo and Hailee Martin, each with five, led the LVR scoring.
