The L.V. Rogers Bombers will host a six-team Kootenay Classic High School Boys’ Basketball Tournament beginning Friday at the Hangar in Nelson.
The Bombers host Mount Baker of Cranbrook, Kootenay River from Creston, Fernie, Trail’s J. Lloyd Crowe and Stanley Humphries from Castlegar.
LVR opens the tournament Friday at 11:30 a.m. against Kootenay River.
The Bombers second game in the three-team pool is Friday at 6:30 p.m. against Mount Baker Wild.
Fernie, J. Lloyd Crowe and Stanley Humphries are in the other three-team pool.
The top two teams meet in the tournament final Saturday at 2:45 p.m.
The consolation final goes at 1 p.m.
Bombers drop three in Central Okanagan
The Bombers tuned up for the tournament during a road swing through the Central Okanagan last weekend.
LVR dropped all three games at the Mount Bourcherie High School Boys’ Basketball Tournament in West Kelowna.
LVR lost 82-53 to host Mount Bourcherie Bears, 70-68 to Mount Baker and 77-43 to Pen-Hi Laker of Penticton.
Michael Anderson and Malachy Poitras led the Bombers in scoring during the tournament.
LVR Senior Girls gain split against Nakusp Cougars
The L.V. Rogers Bombers split a pair of Senior Girls Basketball Games Saturday at the Hangar.
The Bombers hosted Nakusp Cougars in a two-game playday.
The opened with a 48-24 victory over the Cougars in game one.
The Bombers took control of the contest by outscoring the visitors in the second quarter and kept up the offence in the second half.
In game two, the Cougars used a full court pressing defence to stymie the Bombers offence and capture a 26-25 victory.
LVR appeared to overcome the pressure and led by five points heading into the final minutes of the game.
However, Nakusp scored six consecutive points to overcome the deficit and steal the one-point victory.
LVR travels to Grand Forks Wednesday to face the Wolves in High School Girls action in the Boundary City.
