A banged and bruised L.V. Rogers Bombers squad dropped a heartbreaking shootout decision to North Delta to finish 14th overall at the BC High School AA Girls Soccer Championships Saturday in Langley.

Playing the final days of the tournament without their starting keeper Gabby Bobby — lost earlier in the tournament to a concussion following a collision in a game against Notre Dame of Vancouver — the Bombers pushed North Delta to the final whistle before dropping the consolation game in a tiebreaker with a substitute goalie.

The final score was 2-2 on goals by senior Cayenne Caney.

The Bombers opened the tournament Thursday with a 2-0 loss to Lambrick Park of Victoria.

LVR then lost its second contest in round robin play, a crushing 3-2 setback to Notre Dame.

The Bombers held a 2-1 advantage at halftime, scoring three minutes into the contest before Caney converted 25-yard free kick midway through the half.

However, in the last minute of the first half, keeper Bobby suffered a concussion during a collision with a Notre Dame player.

Playing with a substitute goalie, LVR surrendered the tying marker during the second half and the winning tally with a few minutes remaining in the contest.

LVR battled host Archbishop Carney to a 1-1 draw in the final contest of the round robin draw.

The result left the Bombers at the bottom of the pool and a date against Smithers in consolation round action.

LVR had no troubles with the northern squad, hammering Smithers 4-0.

Maddy Jewitt, Caney, Taya Short and Halle Martin scored for the Bombers.

The win advanced LVR, winners of the Kootenay Zone last month in Creston, to meet North Delta in consolation action.

Notre Dame met St. Thomas Moore in the final.

The Bombers, coached by Morag Paterson, include Ally Nicholson, Halle Martin, Rosie Davis, Hannah McClure, Gabby Bobby, Cayenne Caney, Taya Wastle, Thea Rude, Taya Short, Lila Carmichael, Jesse Chochinov, Aurora Dool, Maddy Jewitt, Molly Dool, Shelbi van Hellemond, Skyla Short, Niyah Martineau and manager Tanis Bourchier.

During the award ceremony, Skyla Short received the Commissioners Award for LVR.
