Bombers cruise past Stanley Humphries

The L.V. Rogers Bombers were in mid-season form for the home opener as the squad blasted Stanley Humphries of Castlegar 53-31 in West Kootenay High School Girls Basketball action Thursday night at the Hangar.

Maddy Bonikowsky scored 14 points and Emma Zacharias-Streib added 12 as the Bombers cruised to the victory.

Playing for the first time this season, LVR had to shake off some rust before turning a 12-11 first quarter lead into a 32-21 advantage by halftime.

LVR then outscored Stanley Humphries 14-4 in the third quarter to completely take over the game.

Nara Arensio added eight points while Sam Chirico had seven for LVR. Paige Holmes and Mae Lovick had eight and 12 points, respectively, for Stanley Humphries.

The LVR Bombers open the Kootenay Classic 2020 High School Boys Basketball Tournament Friday at the Hangar at12:45 p.m. against the Prince Charles Comets of Creston.

Other teams in the tournament include Mount Baker Wild of Cranbrook, Mount Sentinel Wildcats, Fernie Falcons, South Okanagan Hornets of Oliver and David Thompson Lakers.

The tournament continues Saturday with Consolation Final at 3:30 p.m. and the final at 5:15 p.m.
