Bombers capture Fair Play Award at BC Field Hockey Championships
The flu-plagued L.V. Rogers Bombers managed to pull a win out of the bag to finish 14th overall at the BC High School AA Girl’s Field Hockey Championships Friday at Lambrick Park in Victoria.
Skyla Short scored twice and Sam Chirico added a single as the Bombers dumped Okanagan Mission of Kelowna 3-1 in Consolation Round action. Backup keeper Molly Thomson registered the win in goal for LVR.
LVR dropped a 3-0 decision to South Kamloops in the final game of the 16-team tournament.
LVR, playing the tournament with several players suffering from the flu, opened with losses to South Okanagan of Oliver, West View of Maple Ridge, Shawnigan Lake of Victoria and Crofton House of Vancouver.
The Bombers also lost starting goalie Johanna Brochagen to injury in the tournament.
The Bombers were awarded the Fair Play award as chosen by the Tournament Umpires with the maximum number of points that could be awarded.
This Provincial tournament was high school competition for Grade 12’s Isabel Curiston, Ella Peloso, Elissa Centrone, Ashleigh McLean and Nicola Anderson.
LVR advanced to the Provincial Tournament through Wild Card qualifying after losing to J. Lloyd Crowe in the West Kootenay Championships.
