Assistance wanted as homicide investigation near Kimberley continues

Investigators are seeking public assistance and ask anyone that travelled on Forest Crowne Gate (between Kimberley and Marysville) between 10 p.m. and midnight on Sunday, August 25, 2019, to contact police after woman was found unresponsive and died RCMP said in a media release.

“RCMP and BC Coroners Service are continuing their investigations into the Sunday evening death of a 38-year-old woman near Kimberley,” police said. “Although the woman has been identified, her identity is not being disclosed at this time to respect the privacy of her family.”

Police were called late on the evening of August 25th to a location on Highway 95A just east of Kimberley.

RCMP said officers located an unresponsive woman. Officers initiated lifesaving protocols and called an ambulance, but after extensive intervention by BC Ambulance and police she was declared deceased.

Police said a 39-year-old male has been taken into custody. He was released after consultation with the B.C. Prosecution Service.

Southeast District Major Crime Unit will be handling the investigation. Assistance is being provided by Cranbrook General Duty, General Investigation Section, the Forensic Identification, Police Dog Services and the Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems unit(drone).

The homicide investigation is in the very early stages and police have limited information available at this time.
