Amazing dance performances highlight opening week of Kootenay Festival of the Arts

The Kootenay Festival of the Arts Dance Highlight Concert held at the Capitol Theatre Saturday was a huge success.
More than 154 talented young dancers participated in the dance section of the performing arts festival held March 30th though April 2nd at the Capitol Theatre with 27 chosen to perform at the highlights concert held this past Saturday evening.
Awards were given for ballet, Modern and Stage dance. Dancers came from Nelson, Trail, Rossland, Kamloops, Nakusp and from across the border from Spokane, Washington.
Sarah Megee from Victoria adjudicated ballet and modern dance. Shannon Cote from Penticton adjudicated for stage dance.
The dance adjudication award winners included:
Top Junior Ballet Student — Ava Jinjoe
Most Promising Ballet Student — Sophie Hargreaves
Outstanding Contemporary Ballet Solo — Ali Ferguson
Encouragement Award Ballet — Sammy King
Workshop Award — Ava Jinjoe
Summer Intensive Tuition Scholarship to Victoria Academy of Ballet — Anna Clark

Outstanding Modern Solo — Joy Davis,
Outstanding Intermediate Solo — Hollie Arsenault,
Outstanding Junior Solo — Tatum Clement,
Encouragement Award Modern — Quinn Barron,

The second half of the Kootenay Festival of the Artsl begins on Monday (April 11th) with performances throughout the week.
Disciplines include strings, woodwinds, piano, vocal and choral, leading up to the highlights concert at the Capitol Theatre on April 16 at 7 p.m.
