AM Ford steps up donation drive for displaced residents

Donations collected for apartment fire victims

AM Ford – 2795 Highway Drive, Trail; until Monday, Jan. 10

AM Ford is asking for the public’s help in collecting donations for residents displaced by last week's fire at Kerr Apartments in Nelson.

After being approached by Terasen Gas, the dealership realized the importance of joining in the relief efforts.

The dealership began collecting items on Thursday and the showroom quickly filled up. By Friday afternoon, enough donations had already amassed to fill three truckloads.

Employees of the dealership have also raised $1,000, to which AM Ford has matched that with another $1,000. Donations will continue to be accepted at AM Ford on Saturday, Jan. 8 and Monday, Jan. 10.

Among items needed are boxes of non-perishable food, blankets, sleeping bags and clothing. Each person who donates receives a $25 voucher towards the purchase of a safety wand.

Once dropped-off at AM Ford, donations will be taken to the United Church in Nelson for redistribution. In addition to AM Ford and Terasen Gas, FortisBC is also leading the drive for donations.
