Friends and fellow First Responders are gearing up for a cold plunge into Kootenay Lake in memory of Cst. Mathieu Nolet at the upcoming Team Cold in the Koots fundraising event.

The event is set for noon Friday, March 31st at Rotary Lakeside Park.

Nolet was one of two officers killed following an avalanche north of Kaslo during an off-duty backcountry ski touring day.

Before arriving in the Heritage City to work as an officer at Nelson Police, Nolet, who was skiing at the time of the avalanche with NPD colleague Cst. Wade Tittemore, discovered the detachment when he saw the Team Cold in Koots SOBC Polar Bear Plunge in 2021 video online.

The event raised money for the local Special Olympic of BC.

Nolet had a passion for Special Olympics prior to joining the police force, coaching golf and other volunteer initiatives with SPBC.

“Our goal this year is to get as many First Responders and civilians as possible to plunge into Kootenay Lake . . . in memory of Mat and to raise awareness for an incredible cause that he was so passionate about.”
