Second round of TNT's play readings goes Saturday at Old Church Hall

Nelson’s newest actor combines with its oldest for a second round of TNT’s popular play readings at the Old Church Hall at the corner of Kootenay and Victoria Streets 8 p.m., Saturday (February 9).
Fresh from playing antagonist jurors #8 and #3 in 12 Angry Men, Philip Sarsons and Richard Rowberry will be presenting Maurice Panych’s hilarious black comedy, Lawrence and Holloman, with Geoff Burns reading between the lines.
“We keep breaking up at rehearsals,” reports Rowberry.
“This is a very funny play and just the thing to chase away the winter blues. And it’s great to have a new actor in town.”
Sarsons may be new to Nelson but he has lots of experience in professional theatre having appeared in major theatres across Canada including the National Arts Centre, the Citadel, Theatre Calgary, and The Globe for a number of years.
He was the first recipient (2001) of Actor Equity’s Emerging Theatre Artist award and also worked professionally in modern dance, music composition, and is a nationally published poet as well.
Lawrence and Holloman follows the descending fortunes of an incurable optimist (Sarsons) as his complacent self-absorption takes him from one disaster to the next. “I play his friend,” Rowberry explains,
“But with friends like this . . . anyway, it’s terrifically funny, Canadian, and only $12 at the door!”
