The Regional District of Central Kootenay is reminding boaters on Kootenay Lake to operate their pleasure craft responsibly and safely.

“There is concern about the speed at which some pleasure craft are travelling the lake,” said Ramona Faust, Director of Electoral Area E.

“High speed puts boaters at risk of hitting logs and other debris that result from freshet and the rising lake level.”

Boaters are also urged to reduce the wake from their watercraft near developed shorelines as a powerful wake can negatively impact docks, moored boats and fishing activity.

The RDCK wishes all users of Kootenay Lake a safe and enjoyable summer season.
