The Nelson & District Arts Council (NDAC) is overwhelmed with the response from artists and venues to the 34th annual ArtWalk.

With over 70 artists applying for two cohorts in more than 25 venues this is guaranteed to be an amazing summer of art. ArtWalk will return to the businesses and streets of Nelson for a fully in-person experience this season.

ArtWalk is an annual tradition that has united businesses, artists, and community members for over three decades. The event populates unique venues with quality, locally produced artwork which draws traffic to local businesses and increases the visibility of Nelson and area artists.

ArtWalk has two opening nights Friday, June 24th from 6 -9 p.m. will showcase participating artists at their venues alongside a collection of street performances and other delights throughout Nelson’s downtown core and down Hall Street to the Waterfront.

The second opening night ArtWalk Nelson is partnering with Market Night on Friday, July 29th from 5 – 8 p.m. Because the Market will be such a draw some of the ArtWalk venues may choose not to stay open on this night. A new set of artists will have their work on display for this second opening. After the openings, art will be available to view at the participating venues during their regular hours until Sunday, September 4th.

“One of my favourite things to see as the applications come in is not only the overall quality of the applications but how the artists have progressed in their practice,” Stephanie Myers, ArtWalk Coordinator.

Some of these artists have been applying for years and you can really see how they have grown as an artist, and I like to think that ArtWalk has helped support this process.”

NDAC has continued to waive participation fees for artists and venues for the 2022 edition to support both the artists and the business community after these challenging years.
