Nelson Shawn Morris captures VIMFF award

Contemporary artist, photographer and writer, Shawn Morris, recently landed one of the premiere awards after placing first at the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festivals Photo competition.

The Nelson native won in the artist category for his piece “Spring in The Selkirks”.

“I would like to thank everyone who has shown interest for my art over the years,” Morris said on his Facebook page. “I am humbled and honored to have such support and am rather taken back by this accolade.”

Morris, who studied at Royal Roads University in Victoria and has a Graduate Degree in Disaster and Emergency Management, grew up and attended public school in Nelson, enjoying travel, poetry, adventure and photography in between playing soccer.

“Mega thanks to the community of Nelson, Whitewater Ski Hill, Ainsworth Hotsprings and all the businesses who have generously provided space for me to display my work and also to all the Folks who have my art hanging in their homes,” Morris said. “I am honored to have such support in my home town and this award is an extension of that support.”
