Nelson Lit is pleased to announce that Sharon Wood, the first Canadian — and first North American — woman to summit Everest will be visiting Nelson as part of her book tour to promote Rising: Becoming the First Canadian Woman to Summit Everest (Douglas and McIntyre, 2019).

Wood will speak on Thursday, February 20, at 7 p.m. at the Prestige Lakeside Hotel located at 701 Lakeside Drive in Nelson.

Wood’s presentation will last about 50 minutes and will include photos and highlights from her 1986 Everest expedition, as well as readings of pivotal scenes from her book.

Afterward, Wood will take questions from the audience and then sign books. Otter Books will be on-site selling books before, during, and after Wood’s talk.

Seating is limited. Cost is $10 per person with tickets available at this link.

Nelson Lit was established in 2020 by new Nelson resident and award-winning writer Jayme Moye. Through Nelson Lit, Moye aspires to bring notable mountain literature writers to Nelson to illuminate our community with free book talks.
