In lieu of the Annual Canada Day pancake breakfast and other Lions Club fundraising events, cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions, the Nelson Lions Club hosted two drive-in movie nights at the foot of Baker Street on June 28 & 29.

The movies shown were Disney’s Onward and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Gate proceeds raised $1365 thanks to the donations from those in attendance, and community partner Nelson & District Credit Union generously contributed an additional $3000 to help support our local food agencies.

This resulted in cheques of $1455 paid to each, the Salvation Army Food Bank, Our Daily Bread and the Nelson Community Food Program.

Representatives from the Lions Club of Nelson, and the Nelson & District Credit Union, handed out cheques to local food agencies on July 10th.

“As a Credit Union and a community, helping is at our heart,” said Tom Atkins from NDCU.

“These days the NDCU family sees an important need to support our community, to ensure we are healthy and thriving during these unprecedented times. We understand that our members are facing challenging times right now.”

“Members helping members, community helping community, is the best way our Credit Union can help, and being a part of a local initiative driven by the Lions Club that is giving so much to our local food agencies we knew it was a perfect match,” Atkins added.

“At NDCU we are always doing our best to achieve our Mission of “Enriching Lives Locally.”

The Lions Club of Nelson also gratefully acknowledges additional donations and contributions from Nelson Home Building Centre, Nelson Chrysler, Blue Sky Clothing Co, Trowlex Rentals (Castlegar), and Glacier Honda.
