Nelson Firefighters rise to the challenge raising funds for Muscular Dystrophy Canada

The Nelson Fire & Rescue Services firefighters are set to climb the steps at the I.O.D.E Park on Hall Street on Friday, November 5th at 11 a.m. to raise awareness and funds to support Canadians affected by neuromuscular disorders.
For 24 years, Muscular Dystrophy Canada (MDC) has been partnering with Canadian Fire Fighters to host the High Rise Challenge – a physical feat that sees participants compete against each other to see who can climb to the top of the tower in the fastest time.
Often, Fire Fighters climb the tower wearing full gear weighing up to 70 pounds.
“This year, participants don’t necessarily have to climb a tower. We’re offering up the event as ‘Your Challenge, Your Way,’ to ensure everyone across Canada can participate,” said Will Truman, High Rise Challenge Committee Member.
MDC encourages all participants to put their health and well-being first by adhering to COVID-19 restrictions in their province.
“We are so grateful for the incredible passion, dedication and commitment of the High Rise Challenge committee, participants and supporters. Their hard work and determination to raise much needed funds is inspiring. I can’t wait to see how they complete the challenges,” said Stacey Lintern, CEO, Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
All funds raised through the High Rise Challenge are used to address the critical needs of the neuromuscular community through programs and services, advocacy and research.
