Nelson Fire Chief meets Air Cadets

Nelson Fire & Rescue Services Chief Jeff Hebert, recently visited the Nelson air cadets during the squadron’s Command Officer’s parade on October 5th.

During the evening, Chief Hebert inspected the cadets on parade and gave a presentation on fire safety. Chief Hebert also demonstrated a thermal imaging camera and a breathing pack. 

The Squadron Sponsoring Committee (SSC) is holding its Annual General Meeting on October 20th, 2022 at 6:30 p.m.

The SSC supports the Nelson Air Cadets by providing funding, equipment, a parade location, and other items not supplied to the cadets by the Department of Nation Defense.

The AGM will be held at the Nelson Eagles Hall at 641 Baker St. Any former cadets, parents of former cadets or anyone interested in helping support the Nelson Air Cadets is welcome to attend. 

This year marks 70 years of air cadets in Nelson.

As part of the 70th anniversary, the squadron is hoping to get in contact with former members of the squadron. If you where a member of 561 as either a cadet, adult staff, or a member of the Sponsoring Committee, please contact us at 561air@cadets.gc.ca. Let us know what you have done since you where in 561 and send us any pictures that you have in your time with 561. 

The squadron always welcome new cadets who are between the ages of 12 and 18.

The squadron meets every Wednesday evening at the Nelson Eagles Hall, 641 Baker St, from 6:15 pm to 9 pm and does activities on selected weekends throughout the year. 

Adults who would like to volunteer with squadron are also welcome.
