Nelson’s Tastiest Raise Funds for MS

On Monday, September 24, the MS Society of Canada will host A Taste of Nelson presented by Save-On-Foods atthe Prestige Lakeside Resort. Featuring tasty samplings from local restaurants, wineries, and breweries, the event aims to raise funds for multiple sclerosis (MS) research, programs, and services.

“It is so exciting to have all these amazing restaurants in one place,” says Tara Kowalchuk, Fundraising Coordinator for the MS Society of Canada. “Nelson has fantastic food, and this is a fun way to try a little bit of everything!”

The event will include some favourite restaurants from previous years, such as Main Street Diner, Rel-ish Bistro, and Pitchfork Eatery. The event also welcomes new participants Kootenay Tamil Kitchen, Torchlight Brewing Company, and Red Bird Winery.

“It is wonderful to have the support of restaurants over the years,” says Kowalchuk. “We are also excited to add new restaurants each year to keep the event fresh and showcase more of Nelson’s culinary scene.”

There will be 10 restaurants, three breweries, and two wineries participating at the 2018 event, so guests will get to sample a wide variety of cuisine and will not leave hungry!  Keep your favourite dishes in mind throughout the evening, as guests get to vote for the Best Sweet TasteBest Savoury TasteBest Beverage, and Best Presentation, with the winning restaurants being awarded “Fork in Cork” trophies.

If excellent food and drinks are not enough, there is also a chance to pick up some great items through the silent auction, toonie auction, and door prize draws. “Local businesses have been extremely supportive of A Taste of Nelson,” says Kowalchuk. “Their generosity means that people attending the event will have some fantastic items to bid on.” All proceeds from the event will go towards funding MS research, and support programs for people living with MS and their families.

A Taste of Nelson starts at 5:30 p.m. and goes until 9 p.m. Tickets are now on sale at Save-On-Foods Nelson, and online at
