The eager beavers noticed by passing motorists filling orange bag after orange bag with litter from the highway ditches Saturday morning west of the Heritage were from the Ascension Lutheran Church congregation.

The congregation member were cleaning up the road as part of the Adopt a Highway program.

The Adopt a Highway program offers volunteer groups the opportunity to contribute to their community and province. This program is aimed at promoting community pride and a means of publicly recognizing group efforts.

The program offers groups, like Ascension Lutheran Church to “adopt” a section of provincial highway to help carry out or sponsor activities such as landscape beautification, litter pickup, weeding and invasive plant spotting and reporting.

Pictured at the end of the day, from left, are Nick Lippert, Jill Gingrich, Lor McDiarmid, Pastor Nolan Gingrich, Tony Lippert and Lisa Canfield with some of the bags of garbage.

Missing from the team photo is photographer Janice Matosevic.
