Local MLA says grants for organizations in Nelson-Creston help people access vital community services

The Nelson-Creston area received more than $460,000 New Democrat MLA Brittny Anderson said in a recent media release.
MLA Anderson says that people who receive services from local non-profits will benefit from funding to improve community health, accessibility and well-being.
“Sustained investment from our provincial government into community non-profit organizations ensures that people and our communities remain supported” said Brittny Anderson, MLA for Nelson-Creston.
“It is incredible to see the diversity of programs that are receiving funding to help people, from Perinatal care to kids sports, to food security, to hospice this funding helps to ensure people in our communities are supported throughout their lives.”
This year, 15 organizations in Nelson-Creston received over $460,000 in funding through the human and social services stream of the Community Gaming Grants program.
Recipients include:
- Kootenay Kids Society – $64,000
- Valley Community Services Society – $60,000
- Salmo Valley Youth & Community Centre Society – $58,000
- Creston Valley Food Action Coalition – $12,800
This year, the New Democrat government will distribute more than $61 million in grants to 1,364 human and social services organizations around B.C.
This funding means people can continue access to services such as food banks, children and youth programs, mental health supports, and other services that enhance health and wellbeing.
