KSCU employees donate local charities, non-profits

To celebrate International Credit Union Day last week, Kootenay Savings’ employees distributed the proceeds from the credit union’s Care Wear program – $21,206 – to 25 different charities and non-profits.
Through the program, employees contribute $1 each week to dress casually on Fridays, which in turn is matched by the Kootenay Savings Community Foundation and donated to organizations chosen by the employees.
“Supporting local and giving back to our communities will always be a priority for KSCU,” shares Aron Burke, Community Liaison for Kootenay Savings.
“There are a lot of dedicated groups out there devoting a ton of time and energy into building the kind of communities people want to be part of, and we’re thrilled to be able to support them in their work.”
Since starting in 2004, the Care Wear program has contributed over $400,000 to help support a wide range of causes held near and dear to employees.
The diverse and very deserving recipients for this year include:

- Castlegar & District Community Services – Way Out Shelter
- Castlegar Society for Search & Rescue
- Circle of Indigenous Nations Society
- Columbia Seniors Wellness Society

- Fruitvale Fireghter Society
- Greater Trail Minor Hockey Association Cinderella Fund
- H.E.A.R.T. Dog Rescue
- Invermere Family Dynamix Association
- Kaslo Baseball Association
- Kids Helping Kids School Meals Program
