GoFundMe page started to assist local family

Friends of a family that has called Nelson home for the past two decades, Ryan Zsadany and Fran Mckay-Wright, have started a GoFundMe page after Zsadany received a confirmed diagnosis of APL (a subtype of Leukaemia) last month.
On January 30th, Zsadany visited the Emergency Room at Kootenay Lake Hospital in Nelson after complaining of stiffness following a snowboarding fall.
The GoFundMe page said Red flags went up after results of his blood work came back showing abnormally low white blood cell counts.
Zsadany was then airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital on February 2 when the diagnosis was confirmed.
Currently around 90% of newly diagnosed patients with APL achieve complete remission — essentially, his snowboarding fall was a Godsend.
So far, Zsadany has spent the last month in Vancouver Hospital as a patient. The first 14 days were spent in COVID isolation. His treatment includes an Arsenic drip once daily, lasting two hours and an Atra pill twice daily.
Zsadany and Mckay-Wright have two sons; Jack who is 23 and living in Victoria attending school, and Evan who is 13 and a student at Trafalgar.
They have owned and operated a small business called Frantastic Foodz for the past 13 years.
