Nelson & Kootenay Lake Tourism is encouraging support for the arts with two exciting new arts and culture programs.

These programs are aimed at getting locals to start ‘Finding Awesome in the Arts’ again by increasing awareness for local artists who have been significantly impacted due to COVID-19.

Grants and vouchers are not limited to members of the arts and culture community; absolutely anyone can apply for them provided they meet the criteria outlined in the application.

The first program, Culture Cash, is an initiative which will give residents $50 to use at participating arts and culture businesses in the Nelson Kootenay Lake region (Nelson, Balfour, Ainsworth Hot Springs, Kaslo, North Kootenay Lake, and East Shore).

NKLT has allocated $10,000 in vouchers to support this program and will be offering them to applicants on a first come first serve basis.

The second program is the Arts Event Grant, an initiative encouraging locals to hire individual artists and art groups throughout the region to perform at a hosted event.

NKLT has allocated $20,000 to anyone who is hosting an event in the region before December 31, 2021.

Applying for Culture Cash or the Arts Event Grant is as simple as filling out an online application on NKLT’s Arts & Culture Program page. Successful applicants can receive one voucher/grant for use in a single transaction until December 31st, 2021.

Finding Awesome, our long-time tagline, runs deep in this new initiative creating awareness and support for the arts community across the region. Supporting the local artistic community right now is key to ensure that arts and culture in the region returns better than ever.

Let’s support our arts community.
