The FALSE Controversy: Evolution vs. Creationism

Have you ever wondered about the controversy surrounding evolution and
creationism?

Many people find the debate confusing as both sides claim a
‘scientific’ conclusion. It is very difficult to decide which side is
correct. Is there a correct side?

Is there evidence for both sides of the
debate?

Is the truth somewhere in the middle?

The Centre for Inquiry is sponsoring the presentation: The FALSE Controversy: Evolution vs. Creationism by Dr. David Eberth.

Eberth is the senior paleontologist and geologist at the Royal Tyrrell Museum and has studied ancient environments of fossil-bearing rocks around the world.

His specialties include stratigraphy and sedimentology, chronostratigraphy (the age of the rocks), and taphonomy (influences on preservation and fossilization).

Claiming that evolution is scientifically controversial (when it actually is not) is an effective strategy by which creationists play on our culture’s
sense of fairness.

Thinly-disguised anti-science ideologies and pseudo-science have entered our schools and communities under various banners such as “Teach the Controversy” and “Intelligent Design.”

More troubling, the ability to spread disinformation easily in the age of the internet means that so-called “factual” information gets viewed with skepticism and distrust by all of us.

Eberth will describe the history of the conflict between science and religion, will present a synopsis of the scientific evidence focusing on his specialties, and will speak to the forces that continue to drive this false controversy.

There will be time for questions at the end of the presentation.

This informative and stimulating presentation goes Sunday, March 10 at
the Capitol Theatre, 7:30 p.m. Cost is $10 adult and $6 student.

Tickets ca be purchase online http://www.capitoltheatre.bc.ca/event_details.php?id=505sub2622 or at the door.
