People flocked to Nelson Fire Rescue Hall Saturday for the Open House during Fire Prevention Week from October 7-13.

The public was treated to various demonstrations as well as booths promoting Fire Prevention, FireSmart and Emergency Preparedness.

Sparky was on hand as well as numerous giveaways.

As Fire Prevention Week concludes, Fire & Rescue Services encourages everyone in our community to check their smoke alarms – they save lives!

Alarms older than 10 years need to be replaced, whether hard-wired or battery operated. Alarms need to be tested once a month and have batteries replaced once a year (minimum).

If anyone needs assistance checking or installing an alarm, they should contact Nelson Fire Rescue at 250- 352-3103 for this free service.
