With the holiday season fast approaching we will be spending time with our family, friends, and co-workers, this is the perfect time to start your Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY) fundraising team.

Nelson CARES Society is thrilled to be hosting the 9th annual Coldest Night of the Year on Saturday, Feb 25th.

This family-friendly walk raises funds for the Ready for Home program which operates out of Ward Street Place and helps residents remain housed and navigate the myriad of social support resources required to achieve a quality of life.

This year the event will be returning to an in-person event. The community will gather at Central (Wildflower) school for either a 2km or 5km walk around town to finish at St. Joe’s Gym for a warm bowl of chili. With this return to an in-person event, there will be numerous volunteer positions from event site setup, teardown, food service, and route safety marshals.

Nelson CARES invites you to create a CNOY team with your friends, family, co-workers, book clubs, gy- goers, choir, or classmates. It is a great way to gather for the good, raise some funds and support the community.

Tens of thousands of Canadians will take to the streets for CNOY with events taking place in 150 cities, towns, and communities across the country. By walking together in the chill of the night, participants will better understand the experience of being on the streets during a cold Canadian winter, while raising funds to aid the work of Nelson CARES and the Ready for Home program in providing much-needed support.

The funds raised here stay in this community to support our most vulnerable citizens. Nelson always shines bright, and we smash our fundraising goal every year. We are hoping that this year will be no different.

Big thanks to the sponsors who have already signed up to support this event and their community: Hemlock Homes, Bowick Electric, Hume Hotel & Spa, Mistiso’s Place Vacation Rentals, Inland Allcare, Dominion Lending – Derek Diener and Melanie Ward, and The Blindman.
