Change of Command for Nelson Air Cadets

On Wednesday February 27th 2019 there was a leadership change for the Nelson Air Cadets.
In a parade lead by Flight Sargent Mathew Bullen, Captain Melanie Ronaldson took command of the squadron from Major Kevin DeBiasio. The change of command ceremony was presided over by Major Scott Bissell, the Officer in Charge of the cadet program for the Interior of BC.
This ends almost three years of command for Major DeBiasio and starts a three year term as Commanding Officer for Captain Ronaldson.
“It has been a pleasure working with the Nelson Air Cadets. I leave the squadron with a great commanding officer, enthusiastic group of cadets and a great sponsor,” said Major DeBiasio.
During the evening, Captain Ronaldson received a promotion from the rank of Lieutenant to her new rank as Captain. Cadet Kenneth Doloiras received a promotion to Leading Air Cadet.
“I am excited for my new role with the squadron and looking forward to great term as Commanding Officer,” said Captain Ronaldson.
Also during the evening, Major Bissell presented Major DeBiasio with the 2nd clasp to his Canadian Decoration. This recognizes Major DeBiasio’s 32 years as a member of the Canadian Armed Forces, almost all of which has been in support on the cadet program.
Over the next few months, the Nelson Air Cadets will be busy. They will be flying in powered aircraft from the Nelson Airport, gliding at the Trail Airport and learning survival during a field training exercise.
The squadron meets every Wednesday at 6:15 p/m. in the Nelson Eagles Hall, 614 Baker Street. The cadet program is open to all youth between the ages of 12-18 years old with a focus on leadership, citizenship and healthy living. Youth from the Nelson area are always welcome to join the cadet program.
