Canadian Federation of University Women Nelson & District (CFUW) is hosting its second SIP Talks: Stories Inspire Passion in celebration of the CFUW’s 100th Anniversary.

SIP Talks is an event to recognize and hear the extraordinary stories from seven dynamic women who live in the Kootenays.  The club’s current vice-president, Stephanie Myers remarked, “Our previous SIP Talks was so well received by those who attended that we were encouraged to host another one. One word described the previous event, “Wow”.  If you ever wonder what inspires a person to write a book, run for office, or become a comedian, then you will want to attend SIP Talks.”

This year’s impressive line-up of presenters is:  Eileen Delehanty Pearkes – researcher, author, and activist for the Columbia Basin Treaty; Jackie Little – professional golfer, inductee into the Legends Hall of Fame, Champion of the B.C. Senior Open and Canadian Senior Open; Rita Moir – author, journalist, and founder of Slocan Valley Seniors’ Housing Society; Astrid Heyerdahl – history buff and in her words “museum nerd”, and the  Touchstones Executive Director; Lisel Forst – comedian, actor, director, and author; Dr. Marisa Van Der Vyver – physician who is from South Africa and is actively involved with Nelson Rotary;  and Anna Purcell – former city councillor, soon to be acting ED for Touchstones Nelson and an advocate for social justice.  Presenters will share their personal stories of what inspired them to become the dynamic women they are today.

CFUW Nelson & District’s goal is to raise funds to continue awarding scholarships to women in the community. Event attendees will be able to participate in some great raffle prizes from such artists as Lainey Benson and Carol Reynolds along with many more items, as well as 50/50 tickets.  Of special note is the “Mix It Up” Raffle, an evening with Shelley Adams preparing some of her famous appetizers.  Shelley has been a big fan of our club for years and as one of our former SIP Talk presenters, she is once again supporting our scholarship fund.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, March 30th, 4 -7 p.m. at the Prestige Lakeside.

Tickets are $50.00 and are on sale at Otter Books or from one of the Nelson & District Club members. Limited sponsored tickets are available – contact Cathy at nelsoncfuw@gmail.com. Tickets will be on sale until March 27th so you and your friends will want to pick them up before they are sold out.
