Nelson poet Elizabeth Cunningham reads from her two poetry collections, A Fragile Grace and Watching the Light Below the Storm, on Wednesday, April 13 at 7 p.m. at the Nelson Public Library.

Watching the Light Below the Storm was recently published by Ekstasis Editions.

“The poems were written in my late 60s here in the Kootenays,” says Cunningham.

“They include explorations of the beauty of this incredible natural environment, and reflections on youth, aging, and relationships”.

Cunningham will also read from her creative non-fiction manuscript Marty’s Place. The memoir centres around Toronto’s Village Bookstore, where she worked as a teenager, and the emerging Canadian literature scene of the late 1960s.

“It was during this time that I began to awaken to the cultural world of the time and my desire to become a writer,” says Cunningham.

Cunningham has a Master’s degree in Expressive Arts Therapy. She is an art and music teacher, a photographer and writer, and enjoys hiking and snowshoeing in the beautiful Kootenays.
