Suzy Hamilton Legacy Fund honours the work of one woman environmental  activist each year through a cash award. The fund was established in  2016 after the death of the well-loved and dedicated West Kootenay environmental activist, founder of the West Kootenay EcoSociety and mentor.

“It is always challenging to pick just one woman to receive the award,” said Legacy Fund committee member K.L. Kivi.  “There are so many women doing phenomenal work in our communities for conservation and sustainability that we’re inviting the public to help us by nominating candidates.”

For this year’s award, nominations can be sent to Matt Lowe – mattwglowe@gmail.com

Entries must include the name and contact information of the nominee as well as a short paragraph about the work they do for the environment.

The Suzy Hamilton Legacy Fund has grown since its inception  in 2016. An additional $2000 was raised in 2018 and we invite more donations so the cash award amount can continue to increase.

Hamilton’s legacy honours women environmental activists and we can support their work in a financially meaningful way by donating to the Fund through the Osprey Foundation.

Heather McSwan of the Glade Watershed Protection Committee was the first recipient of the newly established Suzy Hamilton Legacy Fund in 2018.
