Boundary 4-H District Rally Day wrap up

Boundary 4-H District held its Judging Rally day Saturday  May 42013 at the Rock Creek & Boundary  Fair Grounds.  Fifty three 4-H Members attended out of the 74 Enrolled in the district.

The members judged their 5 classes, an alternate class and the common class of apples before enjoying a pot luck lunch, followed by the Demonstrations and Awards Ceremony.  The  leaders receiving their five year pin and Certificate of appreciation for all their hard work were Valerie Dahl & Kathy Baiton. 

Tim DuMont also received recognition for his two years serving as a 4-H Ambassador.

We had mostly juniors with  27 juniors ages 9, 10, 11, Intermediates are 12,13,14,year olds,  15 judged and Seniors are 15 and up with only foour seniors attending . There were seen Cloverbuds ages 6, 7,8 year olds.

The Cloverbuds: Kiera Simpson, Ella Gotzy, Cloe Comstock , Raya Burch , Delaney Lewis ,Violet Villanueva and Kylee Espenhain all judged a class of 2 horses, then enjoyed a Scavenger Hunt.

The Nelson Cloverbuds displayed the toques they made with knitting spools to be sent to an orphanage in Romania.

The 4-H members set up their Educational displays. It was awesome to see 19 displays on varied topics from Chickens, weeds, safety, branding, soccer, mules, K9, Doctor Who, to Road Rescue.

The winning Educational Display was done by Hanna Harpur of Boundary C  on Upcycling , 2nd  to Marjika VanKuik and  Analia VanKuik of Boundary C  on “I can’t see You” (Animals  Blind spots ) 3rd to Margaret Smith of Nelson 4-H Club on Wool Fibre.

Every 4-H Member had to judge a common Class and this year it was Apple. The Junior Winners were  1st Triona Simpson of Nelson 4-H Club, 2nd to Adele Fossen & Antonia Bergendahl both of Boundary C Club, 3rd to Taylen Hryniw of Kootenay Cinch N Saddle. 

The Intermediate section; 1st to Alec Elliot of Boundary C , 2nd to Kayla Mears of Kootenay Cinch N Saddle, 3rd to Grace Sabo of Nelson 4-H Club. The Seniors;  1st Madison Dahl of Kootenay Cinch N Saddle, 2nd Sarah Kobylka of Borderline 4-H Club, 3rd t Tylana Brown-John of Borderline 4-H Club.

The Beef Section judged a class of Heifers, Steers and Market Steers, 1st in Juniors;  Rylonn Elliot, 2nd Colin Grob, 3rd Sarah Mac Donald,  Intermediate; 1st Alec Elliot, 2nd Tristan Frankie, 3rd Dawson Harpur,  The senior winner was Sara VandenBorn, All members are from the Boundary C 4-H Club.

The Dog Section winners; Intermediate was Amy Siemens, Senior winner Josie Wheaton both of Boundary Multi Club from Grand Forks.

The Horse Section, Junior Winners; 1st Taylen Hryniw of Kootenay Cinch N Saddle, 2nd Annabel Vrba of Nelson 4-H Club, 3rd Adele Fossen of Boundary C .  The Intermediate winners; 1st to Allison Detta of Nelson 4-H, 2nd Megan Ewing of Boundary C, 3rd Olivia Baia of Boundary C. The Senior  winner was Madison Dahl of Kootenay Cinch N Saddle.

The Sewing Section, Juniors 1st to Jade Fossen & Marjika VanKuik, 2nd Antonia Bergendahl, 3rd Analia VanKuik, with Intermediate winner, Emmalee Williamson. All members are from the Boundary C Club.

The Sheep Section, Juniors; 1st Lauren Teal, 2nd  Jordan Kobylka, Seniors; 1st Tylana Brown-John, 2nd Sarah Kobylka , All Sheep members are from the Borderline 4-H Club.

The Top Aggregate Judge in all five Classes, Juniors; 1st Adele Fossen, Boundary C, 2nd Annabel Vrba of Nelson , 3rd Taylen  Hryniw of Kootenay Cinch N Saddle.  Intermediate judges; 1st Josie Wheaton of Boundary Multi Club, 2nd Allison Detta , Nelson, 3rd Kyla Mears, Kootenay Cinch N Saddle, Senior  judges ;1st Madison Dahl, Kootenay Cinch N Saddle ,  2nd Sarah Kobylka, Borderline, 3rd Tylana Brown-John , Borderline.

There was three Junior Demonstrations with first place to Caitlin Johnson & Cameron Johnson on “Sushi Candles” from the Nelson 4-H Club, 2nd to Grace Sabo & Jasmyne Carter on” Making Cheee”  from the Nelson  Club, 3rd to Dawson Harpur & Ben MacFarlane  on “Fly the Mickey Finn” ,

There was also the first Speak and Show done by Madison Dahl of the Kootenay Cinch N Saddle club on Onions.

Speak and Show is  an illustrated talk  on an agriculture or food related theme . It was very informative and I am sure we will have more in the future.

Darnell Barchuk presented his speech between Demonstration. The Leaders  gave their reasons on the classes of Cinchs, Photography, and sewing as  they could bring  them into the room while we waited for the judges to make the Demonstration score cards.

4-H Canada is celebrating its 100 th year so we had a poster Contest, We  will proudly display the 18  posters   in the communities of Rock Creek & area  in the next few weeks.. The winner Marjika VanKuik   received a Commemorative Belt Buckle with 100 on it.  2nd place Analia VanKuik received a 100th Green  Cocoa Mug, 3rd place was a tie between Dawson Harpur & Sarah MacDonald both receiving Green 4-H  100th water bottles.   This contest was a warm up for the BIG 100th Celebration for BC 4-H next year. So members,   start working on your posters for next year, we will judge them earlier at the District Speak offs.

A big thank goes out to everyone for bringing  Animals to judge, Handlers, Judges, Card Markers, Score Keepers, and Kitchen Help , without your help 4-H would not be possible .

The 4-H members now will be preparing their projects for the upcoming Achievement Days, and Fairs.
