Bach to Health with solo cellist Johanne Perron

The Selkirk Pro-Musica Concert Series presents: Bach to Health with solo cellist Johanne Perron on Monday, March 18 begnning at 7:30 p.m. in the St. Saviour’s Pro-Cathedral on Silica & Ward Streets in Nelson.
The night will be an experience in the full potential of the cello in a unique multi-media way.
Cellist Johanne Perron presents works by J.S. Bach, Gaspar Cassadó, Slocan Valley composer Noel Fudge and Zoltan Kodaly. Perron’s unique project ”Bach to Health” brings a new dimension to the solo cello writing of J.S. Bach, by incorporating Isaac Carter’s stunning cinematography of the beautiful Slocan Valley in her multi-media presentation.
Slocan composer Noel Fudge, also known for his concerts with Martine den Bok in the duo Freya, will be featured in Johanne Perron’s program, with a performance of his solo cello work A Magnolia for Sythia. Completing the first set of Perron’s program will be Gaspar Cassadó’s Suite for Solo Cello from 1926. Interestingly, Cassadó’s work quotes one of the great solo cello works of the 20th century, the Sonata for Solo Cello (1915) by Zoltan Kodaly, which Perron will feature in the second half of her recital. This promises to be a fascinating and engaging evening of solo cello music not to be missed.

Selkirk Pro-Musica, through its Youth Engagement Program, creates opportunities for young people to experience our featured artists. Johanne will perform for Trafalgar School students and, in addition, will give a free youth workshop in Nelson for string players.
