Air Cadets crown Kootenay Wing champion

On Saturday (March 9) FCpl Joel O’Sullivan of the 279 Elk Valley Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron in Sparwood won the gold medal at the Air Cadet League of Canada, Kootenay Wing Effective Speaking Competition held in Trail.

Dustin Brooks, 266 Kimberley RCACs, Kimberley earned the silver medal and LAC Sierra Blackwell, 552 Key City RCACS of Cranbrook placed third earning the  bronze medal.

Cadets from Cranbrook, Nelson, Kimberley, Castlegar, and Elk Valley participated in the competition.

Each cadet presents a five-to-six-minute prepared speech as well as a two-to-three minute impromptu speech during the competition.

The cadet program is a national program which, among other things, aims to instill leadership and citizenship qualities in young people and to encourage their involvement in the community.
