Province steps up with bump up on increase to transit service hours in West Kootenay
More offerings are in the offering for West Kootenay Transit users.
The Province has infused cash into the Kootenay-Boundary transit service, improving frequency and increasing service hours.
To help increase ridership and growth of transit in the Kootenay-Boundary, BC Transit and the Province are partnering with the region to expand priority in the community.
“Our communities are growing and need public-transit systems that are reliable and affordable,” said Rob Fleming, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, in a press release. “We have seen that when people have access to an extensive transit system, they use it. This investment ensures that our transit systems can continue to deliver unparalleled services to the people who need it.”
The investment in the regional transit system helps West Kootenay Transit in offering dependable transportation options for people in Kootenay, beginning January 2025.
In Kootenay Lake West, more time is being added to Route 53 Edgewood for better on-time service, and Route 52 will stop at the New Denver Health Centre.
The expanded service in Kootenay is part of improved transit service in communities across B.C., with approximately $29 million for new BC Transit system expansion.
