Beginning Sunday, Naval Security Team (NST) will be conducting small boat security exercises from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Kootenay Lake near the Nelson Marina at the foot of Hall Street near the Prestige Inn Lakeside Resort.

“These exercises will involve various elements such as sirens, searchlights, horns, flashing blue lights, and the firing of blank ammunition,” the Naval Security Team media release said.

People in the visual and audible range of Kootenay Lake near Nelson may encounter both visual and audible effects due to military exercises.

The exercises run from Sunday, July 30 to Tuesday, August 1, 2023.

The Naval Security Team is also holding training on Okanagan Lake near Kelowna Tuesday, July 25 to Thursday, July 27, 2023.

After the exercise concludes, there will be an opportunity for a question and answer session at Nelson Marina.

The public is welcome to watch the exercises and staff will be on hand to answer questions at the end of each training day.

The NST is a team of specially trained sailors who provide an additional layer of security to deployed Royal Canadian Navy assets.
