Nelson's own Freedom Convoy rally attracts hundreds against COVID-19 vaccines, restrictions

Saturday afternoon in front of City Hall, Nelson held its own Freedom Convoy rally as protestors in gathered to demonstrate against COVID-19 vaccines and restrictions.
The main Freedom Convoy was held on Parliament Hill in Ottawa Saturday as thousands of demonstrators rallied against COVID-19 vaccine mandates and other public health restrictions, spurred on by a truckers convoy from all parts of Canada.
Protesters in Nelson waved flags as trucks, one with a flat-deck trailer carrying a large Canadian Flag on its bed, drove past prompting loud cheers from the crowd.
The Nelson crowd, which was non-confrontational, stayed on the sidewalks waving to passing traffic honking horns in support of the protest.
On January 15th, a small team of Alberta truckers, their family members and friends, came to the decision that the Government of Canada has crossed a line with implementing Covid-19 vaccine passports and vaccine mandates," said a Freedom Convoy 2022 Facebook post said.
"As of today, we now have the support of millions of Canadians from across the country."
The list of demands includes the federal and provincial governments terminating the vaccine passports and all other "obligatory vaccine contact tracing programs" and terminate COVID-19 vaccine mandates.
Nelson has been a hub of protests throughout the pandemic as protesters have staged rallies against mask mandates and restriction in BC.
Protesters filled the sidewalks on both sides of Ward Street in support of COVID-19 mandate freedom.
Protesters carried signs and waved flags in support of removing mandates and restrictions.
