A incoming frontal system heading into the BC Interior Monday night has forced Environment Canada to issue a Winter Storm Warning for Highway 3, Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass.

Environment Canada said hazardous winter conditions are expected with snowfall of 30 to 40 cm hitting the ground by Tuesday evening.

“A frontal system over the south coast will move through the BC interior tonight and Tuesday,” Environment Canada said.

“Snow at times heavy will continue today through Tuesday. Snowfall accumulations of 30 to 40 cm can be expected by Tuesday evening.”

Drivers should expect rapidly accumulating snow that will make travel difficult, with visibility suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

Environment Canada said weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
