Nelson Police said a man was taken into custody after a complaint was received that a person was walking the streets in the Rosemont area with what appeared to be a rifle.

In a media release Sunday, Nelson Police said the complaint was received at approximately 2:15 p.m. Sunday.

“Police were advised that there were children in the area and that the male was observed to be cocking and pointing the suspected rifle towards houses,” Nelson Police media release said.

“Upon NPD arrival, the area was contained by police and the male was located walking in a residential area.”

Nelson Police said the male was taken into custody and was confirmed to be in possession of an air rifle with a scope.

“The air rifle was seized, and the identified male was released at scene,” Nelson Police said.

“Police continue their investigation into the matter.”

Unlocked vehicles provide easy access

Nelson Police would like to remind the public to secure property in vehicles following a rash of complaints of thefts in Fairview.

“These criminal acts are opportunistic in nature and vehicle owners can take preventative measures to minimize these incidents,” Nelson Police said.

Nelson Police said the public should ensure doors and windows are secure and that all valuables are removed or hidden from view before leaving vehicles overnight.
