Get Ready for 2021 Coldest Night of the Year

It’s time once again for the Coldest Night of the Year Fundraising event.

The Nelson CARES Society would like to invite everyone to spend some time on Saturday, February 20th for the 7th annual fundraiser and consider the challenges faced by our community members who live their lives on the streets.

This year’s CNOY fundraising campaign has gotten off to a wonderful start with so many community sponsors signing on to support the event as well as teams and individuals setting the fundraising bar very high.

This is the case nationally as well with many of the 149 other CNOY locations across the country reporting record fundraising totals.

The fundraiser is looking a little different this year. Participants previously walked together with 350+ community members in support of Nelson CARES Society.

But this year they are invited to walk only with their bubble of family, friends, co-workers, or housemates at a time that works for them on Saturday, February 20 (or anytime in February). Participants are still encouraged to ask those near and far to support their fundraising goals.

The most important elements of the event will still be in place – Nelsonites will be out there walking in the cold and making a difference for the community. There won’t be a big gaggle walking together and no yummy chili dinner at the end of their walk, but hopefully next year this will all return.

Nelson CARES Society preserves, maintains, and develops safe affordable housing, but sometimes a place to live is not enough and people need some support to maintain that housing.

The Nelson CARES Society’s ‘Ready For Home’ program is fully funded by the Coldest Night of the Year event. At the core of ‘Ready For Home’ is a full-time paid staff member who works one-on-one with individuals to maintain their health and housing and prevent homelessness.

This program assists Nelson CARES tenants with life skills development, connection to health services, employment and income support… anything that will help these residents stay housed in their affordable unit and off the streets.

New this year with CNOY

  • The event will not be a large gathering – participants will walk within their bubble, fundraising stays the same.
  • No Registration Fee so everyone can easily support Nelson CARES Society. Sign up at www.cnoy.org/nelson
  • Thank You Toques: Build your CNOY toque collection for raising a modest amount of $150 (adults) or $75 (youth under 17). Closer to event day, the local CNOY organizer will provide instructions to safely pick up the toque.
  • Cash + Cheques: Because participants aren’t gathering together like last year, there’ll be no cash or cheque collection on event day this year. Cheques must be mailed directly to CNOY Head Office for processing. Full details on the CNOY Nelson website – www.cnoy.org/nelson
