NDP’s Brittny Anderson sworn into legislature as Nelson-Creston MLA

Former Nelson City Councillor Brittny Anderson was sworn into the Legislature virtually today as the new BC New Democrat MLA for Nelson-Creston following an historic election.
Anderson is one of 57 BC NDP members who were sworn in as part of part of British Columbia’s 42nd Parliament.
In a media release, the BC NDP government said all MLA’s are all focused on supporting people through the COVID-19 pandemic and delivering on their commitments to British Columbians.
“I am honoured to be representing Nelson-Creston as part of the new NDP government,” said Anderson.
“The challenges our province faces today are significant, but I am confident that by focusing on the needs of people we will recover and build a strong future for B.C.”
The rookie MLA from Nelson-Creston, replacing former Minister Michelle Mungall who decided not to run this term, edged out Green Party Candidate Nicole Charlwood and Tanya Finley of the BC Liberal Party for the seat in Victoria.
The election of this New Democrat caucus features a number of notable milestones, including:
- First majority-women governing caucus in Canadian history
- Largest BC NDP caucus in history
- Highest number of IBPOC MLAs ever in a caucus in BC
British Columbians put their trust in New Democrats to lead the province’s pandemic recovery, and this diverse team will ensure no one gets left behind as we move forward.
Also sworn in today were Minster Katrina Conroy in Kootenay West and Roly Russell from Boundary, South Okanagan, and Similkameen.
