The parade of fire trucks heading from numerous locations in the area to Sproule Creek road Saturday afternoon proved to be not necessary after all said Beasley Fire Rescue Chief Monica Spencer.

Saturday, at approximately 4 p.m., Chief Spencer said a call came in from a Beasley Fire Rescue member living in the area of Sproule Creek that saw a house with a fire in the chimney.

Due to the house being in a remote location, Beasley Fire Rescue made the call out to other departments for mutual aid.

Members from Nelson Fire Rescue, Blewett Fire Department and Crescent Valley Fire Department responded with a total of approximately eight additional firefighters joining 12 from Beasley Fire Rescue.

Chief Spencer said there were no hydrants near the house so if the fire spread into the house, other equipment would be required to help battle the blaze.

Chief Spencer, reporting no injuries, said it took firefighters about 30 minutes to extinguish the chimney fire.

Beasley Fire Rescue remained on scene to mop up while the other departments were relieved of duties.

“It’s always good to report a chimney fire, immediately,” said Chief Spencer, adding a message to the public, “because a chimney fire can (quickly) extend into the attic or the framing of the house.”
