Mallard's Team of the Week — Mount Sentinel Wildcats
The Mount Sentinel Wildcats dropped a very close 82-72 decision to Grand Forks Wolves in the semi final round of the Kootenay High School Single A Boys’ Basketball Championships Saturday in Salmo.
The loss eliminated the Wildcats from the tournament.
Fernie Falcons knocked off the Wolves 121-81 in the final to capture the zone title and a berth in the BC High School Single A Boys’ Basketball Championships.
Mount Sentinel opened the tournament with a 67-35 victory over Nakusp. Ti Loren let the Cats with 26 points while Kyle Kabatoff had 18 and Jacob Robinson nine. Grand Forks blasted J.V. Humphries of Kaslo 95-21 in quarterfinal action.
In the semi final, Mount Sentinel and Grand Forks were tied 18-18 after one quarter before the Wolves jumped all over the Cats to take a 18-point lead at halftime.
The Wildcats, paced by top scorers Loren, with 30, and Kabatoff, with 28, roared back with a 15-3 run to cut the lead to four in the fourth quarter. However, the Wolves were able to hand on for the 10-point victory.
