Nelson Chamber Canada Day Celebrations brings out the crowds
The day began with pancakes and sausages being served on Baker Street by the Nelson Lions Club and ended with fireworks compliments of the many sponsors and Nelson Professional Fire Fighters Association.
Canada Day 2019 definitely did not disappoint the thousands of Nelsonites enjoyed warm, sunny weather and all the festivities at Lakeside Park and the Nelson waterfront Monday.
After most people polished off their pancakes, it was off to Rotary Lakeside Park for the opening ceremonies.
Nelson Chamber president Tanya Finley was joined by Nelson Mayor John Dooley and his grandson Decker, Minister of Energy Mines and Petroleum Resources and Nelson-Creston MLA Michelle Mungall as well as Nelson Rotary Club members before everyone joined in with the singing of O’ Canada, led by the Heritage Harmony Barbershop Choir.
The scene quickly shifted over to the large-sized cake complete with icing shaped in Canadian Flag.
Nelson Pilots Association conducted a flyover Rotary Lakeside Park while skippers of the Nelson Sailing Club sailed in front of the part on Kootenay Lake.
Entertainment from various groups charmed the public throughout the day before fireworks, that could be seen throughout Nelson, concluded the day’s events.

Minister of Energy Mines and Petroleum Resources and Nelson-Creston MLA Michelle Mungall, flanked by Nelson Mayor John Dooley and grandson Decker, shares a few words during opening ceremonies Monday.
A large crowd, including members of the RCMP, Nelson Police Department and Nelson Fire Rescue, attended Canada Day Opening Ceremonies.
Save On Foods was well prepared for hungry Canada-Day-goers with a bunch of watermelons ready for tasting.
Rotary Lakeside Park was filled with Community Groups, including Parachutes for the Planet, that entertained the public throughout the day.
The local chapter of Extinction Rebellion paid a visit to Canada Day. Extinction Rebellion believes under the current system, humans are headed for disaster as catastrophic climate change will kill millions, cause food collapse, and render many more homeless. Mass extinction of wild species will lead to ecological collapse as displayed during the mock stunt Monday.
This sandcastle builder took over most of Lakeside beach waterfront constructing a massive structure in the Easy Rock Sandcastle contest.
