Stetski — Liberals, Conservatives turn back on Canadians
The MP for Kootenay-Columbia Wayne Stetski said Tuesday that he and his NDP colleagues are upset the two main parties in Canada for putting rich corporations ahead of Canadian citizens.
In a media release Tuesday, Stetski said Canadians deserve a government that’s on their side, a government that is willing to stand up for them against rich interests and powerful friends.
“Everyday families have been paying more and more, while Liberal and Conservative governments tell us we can’t afford policies that would make things like medication, post-secondary education, or child care accessible to all,” Stetski said in the release.
His comments were echoed by NDP party leader, Jagmeet Singh.
“Today, Justin Trudeau and Andrew Scheer told Canadians that they’ll continue to prioritise rich corporations,” Singh said. “New Democrats are clear: we will make different choices. We will put people first.”
The NDP said for so many years corporate executives and their lobbyists have had an undue influence over the Government of Canada, to the detriment of the interests of everyday Canadians.
The NDP put forward a motion asking every Member of Parliament to recognize the impact of corporate influence and start working for Canadian families, but the Liberals and Conservatives said ‘no.’
“Instead of spending millions of dollars to help a rich company like Loblaws buy fridges, we should recover that money and invest it to make the life of Canadians more affordable, such as through an ambitious residential retrofit program that would also help our environment,” Stetski said.
The NDP said the wealthiest and rich corporations have had it too good for too long, it’s time for Canadians to have someone on their side.
The party said New Democrats are committed to put people first.
