CNOY says — Thank You Nelson
Nelson CARES would like to thank the entire community for showing up and making this year’s Coldest Night of the Year another successful event. We met our goal and then some by raising more than $45,000.
We couldn’t do this event without countless volunteer hours. There were over 100 volunteers who gave up their chance to participate in the event to ensure their neighbours had a fun safe night. We had volunteers registering folks as they showed up, standing out in the dark to mark the way, and of course we had volunteers feeding everyone so super yummy chili at the end. Thank you to all of those amazing individuals who were a part of the night or helped with set up leading up to the event.
The support from the business community is always overwhelming and this year was no different. Our Lead Sponsor Valhalla Pure Outfitters signed up early on to support the event in a big way. We also had 3 Supporting Sponsors: Shambhala Music Festival, Leaf Cross Health Society and Urban Legends. Support from sponsors like this ensures that we are that much closer to our goal.
Numerous other businesses and organizations in town supported the event as well from donating food for the super yummy chili, to donating the space a Selkirk College and the students time from Culinary Assistance program to help prepare the chili, hosting Rest Stops and serving hot drinks to encourage the walkers, participating in the ‘Toques Around Town’, allowing us space to have a community table, donating goods for our prize baskets for the best fundraisers..the list of how the businesses supported this event goes on and on.
The funds raised during this event are used to support our Ready For Home program that operates out of Ward Street Place and is an essential service to those individual coming out of homelessness and needing assistance to ensure that they stay housed well into the future.
Thank you Nelson for walking the streets every February to show your support for these folks and the vital work that Nelson CARES does. See you again next year.
