Nelson Search and Rescue concluded 2018 with two positive rescues in the mountains surrounding the Heritage City.

Last Sunday (December 30) NSAR was contacted at 8:45 p.m. regarding a trio of sledders who had not returned following a day up Rover Creek Forest Service Road.

SAR members searched the mountainous terrain until 3 a.m. with no luck despite finding some promising tracks.

SAR team returned at first light on New Year’s Eve to locate the three locals with the assistance of a helicopter, cold, but in good health.

Later New Year’s Eve, NSAR was dispatched to White Queen near Whitewater at 9 p.m. to locate a missing skier.

The skier was found at first light New Year’s Day by NSAR ground teams and helicopter, once again, cold, but in good health.
