Two staff members at L.V. Rogers High School won’t need to book off any time for that Christmas haircut after the pair received a close shave Friday before hundreds of students at the Fairview based school.

Teachers Jordon Konken and Gary Schmidt when under the clippers after LVR students, organized by Rec Leadership, raised more than $1,500 for the Terry Fox Foundation during the annual run in September.

“The goal this year was to raise $1400, and if the goal was reached Mr. Konken would shave his hair,” an LVR spokesperson said.

However, this group of students did not just stop at the initial goal. The student body raised more funds to top out at $1,550 — during a two-day period — to be used in the fight against cancer, which kicked in Schmidt to shave his head if additional funds were raised.

Friday, during a student assembly, both teachers received close cuts from local hair dressers.

The money raised at LVR combined with the annual Terry Fox Run hosted by Kootenay Rhythm Dragon paddlers, brings the total in the Heritage City to more than $16,000.
