Staff at Canada Post in Nelson scored big time after presenting KidSport Nelson with a Canada Post Community Foundation grant to be used to help athletes in the Heritage City get a chance to play sports.

Canada Post employees Andy Sturrup and Catherine McCrae presented the Canada Post Community Foundation cheque to Jennifer Lehmann of KidSport Nelson as the country celebrates KidSport week Sept 8-15, 2018

All the money raised through the KidSportTM Nelson Fund benefits children throughout the Heritage City region by helping to remove the financial obstacles that prevent some children from participating in sport.

  • A child’s participation in sport encourages self-esteem, teamwork, dedication, and personal excellence.
  • This year we were able to increase our annual grant maximum per child to $400.  Each child can submit onr or more applications until they reach the $400 maximum per calendar year
  • In 2017 we supported 130 kids with grants totaling $27,366
  • Since 2007 the KidSportTM Nelson chapter has distributed more than $188,000 to kids from the Nelson region.
  • More than 1150 local athletes between the ages of 6 and 18 have had a chance to participate in sports because of support from the KidSportTM Nelson Fund.
  • Originally conceived in British Columbia 1993, KidSportTM chapters have flourished across Canada
  • Nelson is one of 40 community based KidSportTM chapters in BC, raising money locally and supporting athletes locally.
