Even cooler weather could not dampen the enthusiasm as Canadians throughout the region celebrated Canada Day 2018.

Sunday at Lakeside Rotary Park, local dignitaries, including Nelson Mayor Deb Kozak, Kootenay Columbia MP Wayne Stetski and Nelson Creston MLA Michelle Mungall, joined together to help celebrate Canada Day 2018 with speeches, the singing of O’ Canada and the cutting and handing out of the traditional birthday cake during the annual Nelson Chamber of Commerce celebration.

People of all ages and nationalities enjoyed festivities ranging from sailing with the Kootenay Lake Sailing Association, to savoring cool watermelon and salty French fries.

Also present during the ceremony were members of the Nelson Police Department as well as RCMP members posing for photos with the public.

There were plenty of activities for the everyone in the family from the inflatable castle to balloons, sand castles on the beach.

Fireworks staged by Nelson Professional Fire Fighters Association concluded the day of celebrations with an amazing display over Kootenay Lake.

Mother Nature did her best to hold off on the rain for most of the day leading to many smiling faces celebrating Canada’s 151st Birthday.
