Downtown Nelson was bustling with excitement as fans jammed Main Street Diner patio for the FIFA World Cup Final between Croatia and France.

The contest was an exciting affair with plenty of goals and talking points — including a VAR (Video Assistance Referee) awarded penalty shot as France won the 2018 FIFA World Cup with a 4-2 victory.

Its been 20 years since France has claimed victory — capturing the title in 1998 in France — as Antoine Griezmann, Kylian Mbappe and Paul Pogba all found the score sheet for the winners. Perisic and Mandzukic both scored for Croatia.

It’s estimated that one billion people watched Sunday’s World Cup Final. During the 2014 tournament, 3.2 billion watched the month-long tournament.
